History of ‘Peace for the sea’
The ‘Peace for the sea’ Peace Camp was first held in the summer of 2014 on Jeju Island. Since then, participants have gathered successively in locations such as Okinawa, Taiwan, Ishigaki, Kinmen, and Miyako, joined by participants from the Philippines, Guam, Hawaii, and beyond. The initiative is dedicated to fostering inter-island, Inter-Asia connections and peace dialogues.
This is an initiative spontaneously organized by civil society groups. Typically, the participants decide the location and organizers for the next session at the end of each gathering. To maintain its autonomy, the event does not accept state funding.
